ANHC is licensed by NYS to operate a 7 bed safe home, which we call “the shelter” and New Hope House for the sake of convenience. The location of the safe home is confidential. The safe home is equipped with a security system and all the essentials for daily living.
We strive to maintain a clean, comfortable and homey atmosphere.
While in the shelter, women are responsible for their children, making meals
and daily cleaning. Any female over age 16 may be admitted by herself or with
her children for a maximum stay of one month (in certain circumstances additional
time can be negotiated).
We accept any victim of domestic violence in need
as space allows and include their teenage sons as well. Adult male survivors
of domestic violence, (and if the safe home is full, women as well), may
be admitted into our safe home network of private homes, for a maximum stay
of
one week.
We try to keep rules to a minimum, recognizing that survivors
need safety, not additional limitations or control. Rules are based on safety
needs and consideration of other residents.
To gain admittance, call our
hotline
number. During the week before 5pm, a counselor at our office will talk
to you. After 5pm and on weekends, a personal attendant from our answering
service
will immediately connect you with a counselor. The counselor will help
you to figure out specifically what you need to do and how ANHC can help.
Try to
be prepared to bring any medicines, important papers such as birth certificates,
social security numbers and the like.
We may also be able to provide
foster care for pets that might be endangered if left behind.
